MOMENTS after paying her last respects to her late uncle at the Verulam Crematorium, a Pietermaritzburg grandmother was killed when a car battery was thrown from an overhead bridge on the N3 highway near the Pavilion Shopping Centre on Sunday afternoon.
Madhumathie Bunwarie, 62, of Mountain Rise, who was seated in the front passenger seat, sustained serious head injuries and died before she could arrive at the hospital.
Her husband, Shakthi Bunwarie, who was driving their vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz, as well as two other relatives, were not injured in the incident.
Speaking to the POST this week, Roy Sukdhev, her uncle, said they were devastated by the tragedy.
He said Bunwarie's late mother, Sabitha, was his sister.
