Northern heights
Several of this month's travel features centre on locations in northern England, an area that perhaps many of us don't take the time to truly appreciate. Yes, the South and Midlands have their own highlights, but as a touring destination, for sheer scale, variety and choice, the North has to be celebrated.
We could dedicate several features (indeed books!) to the majestic Lake District alone – see Susan Taylor's article about the Hawkshead area (p26). But there's also the North York Moors, the Yorkshire Dales, the North Riding, Kielder Forest and the Northumberland National Park.
