PATROLLING THE FORT

Wow! That’s all we can say when we think about all the things that happen in one month of Fortnite. In fact, after its spectacular launch, the Season 8 Battle Royale experience has kind of taken a back seat, with huge changes happening instead across the Events tab and the Creative Mode as people prepare for the World Cup and try to become the star of The Block respectively. ROAD TO THE WORLD CUP

It’s begun! By the time you read this, the first of the weekend Online Opens will have kicked off, and with it your chance to start fighting your way to big cash prizes and World Cup glory. Epic Games has detailed how the system will work in more detail, with each of the ten competition weeks following the same pattern. This is how it works. 1 Players must first play in the Arena game mode that arrived in patch 8.20 and perform well enough to reach the Champion League. KNOCKED BACK

As well as dealing a swag of damage, in fact the most of any pistol, the Flint-Knock also knocks the shooter away from the firing spot. This can be quite distracting if you are not used to it, but if you are prepared it can be used in multiple ways to create new battle strategies. Especially as you can crouch before firing to deactivate the knock back effect. THE PROS ARE ANGRY

Back in patch 7.40 – which came out on Feb 14 – there was a seismic shift in the way Fortnite played. Epic Games introduced a system where if you eliminated a player you got a 50HP boost (which would add to your shield if your health was full) and some free resources. This meant that going on the attack and having an aggressive strategy was much more rewarding than it was before. You could take a bigger risk.
