Chrome OS is a Linux-based OS designed to be pre-installed on commodity hardware, and based around the Chrome browser. Love them or loath them, Chromebooks are the biggest selling desktop Linux devices ever. A good chunk of this is down to the education sector fleeing overpriced Apple laptops, underpowered iPads and maintenance-heavy Windows devices. In their place, Chrome OS – based on Gentoo – delivers a full desktop browser experience, on capable desktop hardware, at tablet prices, with minimal maintenance required.
