UNLIKE a lot of the cars featured in our Icons series so far, you definitely won’t have a problem finding a Mk1 Qashqai in the classifieds. Being a reasonably recent and wildly popular car, there are hundreds to choose from. Prices start from less than £2,000, but for that sum, you’ll likely have to settle for a high-mileage car in base-spec Visia trim with the entry-level 1.6-litre petrol engine. Spend around £3,000-4,000, and you’ll be able to get a 2.0-litre example (or the more economical diesel of the same capacity) with fewer miles on the clock and either the mid-spec Acenta grade or the top-of-the-range Tekna trim. Toyota Corolla FAMILIARITY has taken the edge off the Corolla’s design. It’s neatly proportioned and handsome in an understated way. The facelift has brought the most subtle of design tweaks, which include revised headlight graphics, refreshed wheel designs and new colours. While other classes have embraced the EV switch with dedicated electric-car platforms, Maxus has gone down the route of installing its running gear in the chassis of an existing combustion-engined model. In this instance, that’s the Chinese-market T90 pick-up. That means you’re getting a traditional looking pick-up – even the Ford F-150 Lightning looks more futuristic – with a large, imposing grille up front and a traditional three-box, five-seat double-cab configuration. AS we mentioned in the Civic’s introduction, Honda has temporarily suspended sales while it catches up with demand. As a result, we’ve based the Civic’s PCP figures on the most recent prices available to us, so these numbers could change once orders resume. Using this data, we’re not surprised that Honda is struggling to get enough cars for buyers. On a 36-month deal with a £3,000 deposit and 10,000-mile annual limit, the Honda costs £433 per month. The Ceed is next (£467 per month) then the Toyota (£491pm). Over three years, that means the Honda will cost £2,088 less than the Corolla in finance payments alone. A MORE rugged version of the Subaru Crosstrek SUV – known as the XV in the UK – was unveiled in New York. Volvo’s electric-SUV duo go the distance REVISED range figures for the new rear-wheel-drive Volvo C40 and XC40 EVs have been revealed.
