It’s a no-brainer that dairy foods—like milk, cheese, and yogurt—are an important part of a kid’s diet, but new research in the journal Age and Ageing reveals how they can have a big impact later in life too. When it comes to treating breast cancer, less really may be more, suggests a study recently published in the journal Cancer. Women diagnosed in an early stage who had a lumpectomy plus radiation were 13 percent less likely to die from the disease than those who had a mastectomy. “These numbers may indicate that radiation is more effective than surgery, or that those choosing mastectomy have a different risk profile—for instance, a genetic mutation—that affects their outcome,” says coauthor Shelley Hwang, M.D., a surgical oncologist at Duke University School of Medicine. “There will always be cases in which it’s better to be more aggressive,” she adds, “but many patients can feel confident about selecting a less invasive procedure.”…
