Pro Tip
Top designers share their favourite stitching tips
“Don cut your threads too long”
This sounds obvious, but it is something I often do, because I think I'll save time from not having to stop sewing to cut more thread, thread a needle and cast on/off. But it doesn’t – when I cut the thread too long, thinking, “It will be ok, I’ll get away with it this time,” I never do. The thread twists, and knots and generally gets in a mess. I then waste large amounts of time undoing all this and generally not enjoying my stitching at all. So it’s a basic tip, but one I often forget, which is why it is my tip for happy stitching.
