SiFive, a semiconductor startup that designs RISC-V architecture, and which licenses chip and process designs, could be acquired by Intel, which is said to have offered more than $2 billion for the company, which is much higher than the $500 million it was valued at back in 2020.
However, with the global chip shortage, along with Intel’s rival Nvidia buying SoftBank Group Corp.’s Arm Ltd for $40 billion in September, has obviously sent the company’s value skyrocketing. However, if Intel is indeed looking to acquire SiFive (according to Bloomberg, which reported the story at https://bit.ly/LXF279IntelSiFive , both Intel and SiFive refused to comment), talks are likely still in their early stages.
