MACKAY GETS SHIRTY WITH BREMNER
The first of two famous hardmen shots by legendary Daily Mirror snapper Monte Fresco (Vinnie Jones grabbing Gazza’s family jewels being the other, overleaf), this one is loved by everyone apart from the late Dave Mackay himself, “because it portrays me as a bully”. He was a brilliant footballer too, of course, as was fellow Scot Billy Bremner, his Leeds United opponent on 1966-67’s opening day. “He kicked me in the leg I’d just come back from breaking twice,” the Spurs legend explained to FFT in 2009, “and that really annoyed me. If he’d kicked the other one, I could have accepted that.” Hard but fair.
