This family-run, adults-only campsite, close to Suffolk’s heritage coast, is located in four and a half acres of pleasant parkland setting. Having spent most of the previous three decades driving manual vehicles, I was slightly nervous about the fact that the new campervan I was eagerly awaiting was an automatic. I knew that they were popular for their convenience and driving comfort. But 30 years of being told by old-school petrolheads that manuals were superior in all ways had clearly had its effect. I needn’t have worried. After driving the automatic for a couple of years, I can now confirm that I would happily never drive a manual again. CLUB LAUNCHES NEW ESCORTED UK TOURS The Caravan and Motorhome Club has launched 11 new escorted tours around the UK, offering everything from exploring historic buildings and royal palaces to hiking moors and dales to enjoying shows and scenic tours. The 11 new escorted tours join run three returning tours, which were successfully piloted in 2023. The escorted UK tours, which all have experienced tour hosts are available exclusively to Club members, cost from £499 to £3,339 for a campervan, motorhome, or caravan and two adults. Sarah and I have been to the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire just once before, mainly to see the amazing bluebells in spring. On that trip we visited some of the popular tourist attractions, including Symonds Yat Rock and Tintern Abbey, so this time, on an autumnal visit, we decided to choose some different places based on two of our passions: mine for wildlife and Sarah’s for steam trains. HI It’s rare that I visit the same place twice on my travels. It’s not a strict rule by any means; I love the familiarity of a well-known spot. It’s more because I want to spend my time exploring new places and, unless I’m based in one place for a reason, it doesn’t make sense to backtrack. Often, size and price bear no relation to each other. A premium-spec campervan, like this Malibu, can cost more than a six-berth coachbuilt motorhome. But is smaller actually better? Well, it can be, so is the smallest ’van in the whole Malibu range also the best? That’s what we hoped to find out. We’ve been impressed with Malibu Van models before, of course – most recently with the Diversity 600 DB K.
