WHEN HOMEOWNERS HANNA AND ERIC SODERSTROM STUMBLED ACROSS A 1980S BUILT-BY-HAND LOG CABIN, THEY LOOKED PAST THE dated orange pine and saw its potential. “Everything, I mean everything, was wood-colored, tired, and dated,” Hanna says. White stain became her secret weapon. Right away, she coated the exposed beams, log walls, and ceilings to freshen up the woodsy scheme.
After a decade, the time was right to remodel, and Hanna had every square inch planned. She even researched which projects she could tackle herself to stretch the budget. The renovation doubled the home’s size, allowing the couple to create spaces they’d long dreamed of—a large kitchen and back porch, a primary suite, and a finished basement with a mudroom entry.
