Kurunpa Kunpu, meaning strong spirit, effectively describes the relationship between three extraordinary artists. Each a designer or artist in their own right, the collaboration between Tanya Singer (a Minyma Anangu woman from Indulkana, South Australia), Errol Evans (a Djabugay and Western Yalanji man from Far North Queensland), and Trent Jansen (a non-Indigenous collectible furniture designer), is extraordinary.
The call to action started with the dwindling of the small but beautiful Parakeelya flower that once covered the Indulkana hills of remote northern South Australia. “When my mum was alive the flowers used to be more, more of them. And then due to climate change, and also cattle, it just started dying off… Before, we’d see big blankets of them over the desert,” says Tanya.
