There is nothing I love more than being surprised by a design element or technique that teaches or shows me something I didn’t expect. Even simple designs can feature elements that make you look a little closer, and that’s what this Winter 2018 issue of knitscene is all about. To be honest with you, the themes in this issue were inspired by frustration. Let’s not focus on that part, though, because what came out of it is a beautiful collection that took on a life of its own. www.thehealthyknitter.com Christina Campbell’s mission is to create world peace, stitch by stitch. In the midst of living a busy life with three children, a husband who worked nights, and a stressful academic job, Christina Campbell attended a leadership conference over 10 years ago that changed her outlook on life. One speaker’s words inspired her to start a blog, The Healthy Knitter, which promotes physical activity and healthy living. In 2016, Christina released a “Project Peace” cowl pattern and organized a knitalong, and it got Ravelers talking about peace in their everyday lives. As a group, they named December 21, 2016, “Worldwide Knit-In for Peace Day” and kept the discussion going in person.
