THE GAME AWARDS The 2022 Game Awards have come and gone, with a stack of big new announcements, as well as a list of winners. The biggest trophy went to the huge open-world RPG Elden Ring. THE EGG STICK THE SET UP: Wait till nobody is looking and swipe a carton of eggs out of the fridge. Carefully take the eggs out of the carton and squirt some glue into the bottom of each space in the carton and quickly place the eggs back into the carton exactly as you found them. FROG TUNES TOP CHARTS A collection of Australian frogs making music recently landed on the ARIA Album charts taking on artists including Taylor Swift. The ‘Songs of Disappearance’ featured various croaks, screams and moans by over 43 different frog species. The 50-minute soundscape was created by musicians, Anthony Albrecht and Simone Slattery with the intent to raise awareness and funds for the Australian Museum’s FrogID project. Lead scientist, Dr Jodi Rowley, hopes hearing the threatened species will “ignite the spark in people to make sure that future generations can hear these calls.” The 2021 ‘Songs of Disappearance’ playlist included various bird calls and reached the top five on the ARIA Charts. It was an explosive end to Fortnite Chapter 3. The Fracture event saw our favourite island literally shattered into pieces and scattered throughout the stars. What followed was super cool, as players worked together to rebuild the world by collecting Zero Points, either by completing challenges or exploring. The new map is dominated by icy, snow-capped mountains in the north, and autumn forests in the south, with some farmland in between. There’s plenty to explore, including 9 new regions. These tend to tie to stories surrounding the new skins. Most of the skins in this batch look pretty human-like, but they do tie into known brands like Doom, Hulk, The Witcher and My Hero Academia. PSVR 2 It’s not very often we get a big new hardware release to celebrate in gaming, but we do this month. The next generation of virtual reality gaming has landed and it works exclusively with the PS5 console. As you can see from its colouring and design, it fits right into that ecosystem. But more importantly, it uses the extreme power of the PS5 to massively improve the console VR experience. You can expect over double the resolution over the original PSVR, with a 4000 x 2040px OLED display. The all-important field-of-view has increased to 110-degreees.
