WIKI-BEEBE
As many readers know, Capt. Robert P. Beebe is widely credited with fostering the concept of long-distance cruising in midsize powerboats. He was a retired naval officer and largely self-taught naval architect. Capt. Beebe died in 1988, but his book, Voyaging Under Power, is considered a classic, and is a mixture of factual data and personal boating experiences.
The book was first published in 1975 and is now in its fourth edition. The third edition was updated by James Leishman, who is a founder of the Nordhavn line of long-distance powerboats. Brother Jeff Leishman, a naval architect, joined Nordhavn after graduation and designs most of their vessels. The Leishmans give much credit to Robert Beebe. The new fourth edition was updated by Denis Umstot, a noted bluewater navigator.
