What do Dweezil Zappa, the London Symphony Orchestra and, let’s say, veteran singer Tony Bennett have in common? No? Well, all of them mostly do shows where they play only other people’s music, which technically makes them all cover acts. That’s an often derided term, but the modern concept of it is becoming increasingly not just acceptable, but also highly marketable. As major artists from the golden age throw in the towel or leave us completely, it’s important that some of the music is kept alive in a live context. Fortunately, there are plenty of musicians doing that extremely well, and plenty of fans who want to see them doing it.
