In late 1959, a young Canadian news reporter called Ron Bowman decided that as, so far as he knew, no one had ridden a scooter from Canada into South America he’d pick up the challenge. He sold his car, bought a Lambretta LD150 Mk3 and started planning. The first leg would be relatively straightforward and take him along the well-maintained roads of the United States to the Mexican border. This part of the trip would be made in the company of his buddy, Jon MacQullen, who’d then return to Canada, leaving Ron to continue alone.
