Designer Nia Gould has created a feline-focused store, cleverly combining cats, art and humour in her work. Microchipping laws The RSPCA has issued an urgent reminder to pet owners in England that they will soon be breaking the law if their cats aren’t microchipped - with nearly half unaware that they could soon fall foul of the law. Shropshire Cat Rescue provide the Shrewsbury/Shropshire area shelter, food, and vetinary care for homeless, stray, abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens. They also help feral cats with veterinary care and neutering. They are home to the Moggies Retirement Village, (which started in 2009 with an old cat called Betty) where they allow older cats with health issues to live out the last of their years with dignity and comfort. “We are currently in the process of paving a lot of our shelter, the cats have shown they much prefer sprawling out on the smooth paving and we are hoping to pave our Retirement Village,” says volunteer Rachael Ashton. “This will mean cats like Titch, who is blind, will be able to move around more freely without stumbling on the current…

1897 was a momentous year. It was the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, in America the Klondike gold rush started, in Italy the football club Juventus was founded, and in a corner of Yorkshire something completely different was founded which continues to change the lives of cats for the better today: The Sheffield Cats Shelter. It was a good year for cats in need, for the same year also saw the formation of The Blue Cross. Whilst that charity has become a national concern helping pets of all kinds, The Sheffield Cats Shelter has remained focused on the cats and kittens of South Yorkshire, making it one of the oldest surviving pet charities in the United Kingdom.
