Hi, my name is Apaarjeet Kaur, and I’m six years old! My dad, Harnarayan Singh, is a play-by-play commentator for Sportsnet! He’s one of the voices you hear during hockey games on TV. Meet my dad and then check out my interview with him! Cool Hockey Job Harnarayan is a play-by-play announcer for the NHL on Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada: Punjabi Edition. His job is all about talking—a lot!—to help audiences understand what is happening during a game. He tells viewers who the players are and what the score is. He also helps fans feel the excitement of the game. To do his job, Harnarayan travels from arena to arena—wherever the game is. You’ll need: • strawberries • vanilla yogurt • muffin tin filled with liners What to do: 1 Ask an adult to help dice a few strawberries and slice a few lengthwise. Save the sliced strawberries for step 3. 2 Mix the strawberries into the yogurt. Then spoon the mixture into the muffin tin. 3 Place a sliced strawberry on top of each yogurt bite. How is wool made into yarn? Elsie We have fluffy sheep to thank for our fuzzy sweaters! First, farmers shear off a sheep’s winter wool and send it to a mill. The wool is then separated into long and short pieces and cleaned. The clean wool is put through a machine that untangles the wool fibres and pulls them in the same direction so they become one thin flat piece. The next step is to pull the flat piece into long pieces called rovings. These pieces are then put into a machine that spins them into yarn. That’s woolly cool! How do we grow taller? Letter Sign Draw the first letter of your name onto a piece of cardboard and cut it out. Glue on small toys and colourful items for decoration. Hang it on your bedroom door. Great Garland Glue or tape paper shapes, small toys or pompoms to string to make a garland. Hang it on your wall or above your bed to make your room look festive! You’ll need: • empty large yogurt container • empty soup can • balloon What to do: 1 Ask a grown-up to make a small hole in the side of the yogurt container. 2 Place the balloon in the container and pull the neck through the hole. 3 Place the can in the container on top of the balloon.
