History is Curated and Everchanging
While working in museums for the last decade, I realised the extent to which historical narratives are continually curated. Every day a plethora of peopleâsuch as curators, boards, collection managers, donors, marketing staff, educators and even visitorsâdecide whose objects are collected, and which stories are featured on the website, showcased in an exhibit, or included in school programsâand, by extension, those that are not. It was not until I actively participated in and observed these processes that I understood the degree of influence that museum professionals have on our knowledge of history.
At times this was a positive experience. For example, while researching at the Massachusetts Historical Society in 2019, the research librarian joked that I was perhaps the first person to look at aâŚ
