TOP IT OFF Punch up a plain side table with a rainbow of tiny tiles. Cut adhesive fiberglass mesh slightly larger than the tabletop. Arrange tiles on sticky side of mesh, leaving gaps between for grout. Rough up the tabletop with sandpaper; wipe clean with a dry cloth. Using a notched spreader, apply an even layer of adhesive (see “Mosaic Basics,” at bottom) about half the thickness of a tile. Transfer the tiled mesh to the prepared surface; gently press tiles into the adhesive. Let dry for 24 hours. Trim excess mesh. CADDY STACK Arrange salvaged boxes big and small on a wall to double as storage and display. To configure the arrangement, trace the outline of each toolbox onto a large sheet of paper, cut out the shapes, and tape to the wall. Keep in mind which items you’ll store in each caddy and adjust the spacing between boxes as desired. Measure and screw each box into a wall stud. If you can’t find a stud, use wall anchors to secure the containers to drywall. …

WRAP IT UP A dowel, wood round, and belt come together to make a high-impact candlestick. Cut a 1-inch-diameter dowel to a desired length (ours range from 9 to 11 inches). Using a hole saw, cut a 3-inch-diameter circle from 1-inch-thick plywood. Sand the pieces, stain, and let dry. Center the dowel on the circle and screw together from the bottom. Trim the belt into 3-inch-long pieces (we used five on a 10-inch dowel). Apply wood glue to the back of each piece and secure to the dowel, spacing them equally apart. Wrap painters tape around the leather pieces to hold them in place while the glue dries. Tap a 2-inch finish nail halfway into the center top of the dowel. Cut off the head of the nail and gently…

Make sure lines intersect in several places, while considering doorways, windows, and furniture layout. Using a 4-inch-wide paint roller, trace the lines in a contrasting color from your wall paint. Repeat, if needed, and touch up the edges or any missed spots with a paintbrush. GET IN LINE Customize a seating nook with several bands of alternating colors—our palette includes 10—in various lengths. For straight lines, place a level on the wall and trace the long sides.
