ALANA FIRESTONE: The owners felt the principal bath was the worst part of the house, so we wanted to improve it in terms of functionality. Bathing their son was impossible in the old tub; it was in the corner, had jets and was up a few steps. Adding a private toilet room was important, too. IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE that this airy bathroom was once a dark and dated space. What’s not impossible to imagine is that Erin Feasby and Cindy Bleeks were behind the design. IN THE TRADITION OF grand Edwardian homes, this Toronto abode had a conservatory or sunroom, a glassed-in area where one could grow plants all year long. It’s a beautiful idea but, in reality, it was a drafty, dreary, wood-panelled space tacked on to an 11-inch-thick exterior wall that blocked the kitchen’s view of the backyard and hemmed it in.
