Heidi and Wolfgang Hass have spent the past 33 years voyaging, circumnavigating the world four times. The first, aboard a 38-foot Van Dam sailboat, took them 13 years. The subsequent three have been aboard their Nordhavn 46, Kanaloa, covering 108,604 nm since acquiring her in 1995. This past January, Heidi and Wolfgang—now 64 and 76, respectively—departed for what could be their fifth circumnavigation together.
“We simply love being out on the ocean,” Heidi says.
Aboard Kanaloa, Heidi is captain, navigator, and cook. Wolfgang is chief engineer, first officer, deckhand, baker, and sauerkraut maker. Zulu, a Norfolk terrier, is their loyal crew.
