You will need
AF spanners and socket set, breaker bar, hammer and chisel, soft-faced hammer, pry bar, large screwdriver, wax crayon, stud remover, dial test indicator (optional).
Good housekeeping
Drain the engine oil before you start. Clean dust, cobwebs and oily crustiness from the outside of the engine to avoid contaminating the insides and soiling yourself unnecessarily. Wear nitrile gloves at all times.
Stud removal
A roller-type stud remover set is handy, particularly if damaged threads prevent using two nuts locked together. If you snap a firmly-stuck stud, weld a nut over the stump and unscrew it while it’s still hot.
Marking tip
Wax crayon is good for marking components. It has good sticking power and works on oily surfaces.
