IF you’re after a more comprehensive camping solution than Dacia’s (left), Volkswagen has revealed a new version of its motorhome, called the California Surf. The new addition sits between the current Beach Tour and Ocean models, and costs from £68,234. Based on the T6.1 Transporter van, the California Surf features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with 148bhp, and a seven-speed automatic gearbox. Its cabin is kitted out with a gas hob and a stainless-steel sink as part of its kitchen, along with a pop-up canvas roof. Buyers can choose between four and seven-seat configurations, with a bench seat that can be converted into a bed. @tristan_shale LEASING companies have been accused of overcharging for deals on electric vehicles. According to green transport organisation Transport & Environment (T&E), leasing offers for EVs are 57 per cent more expensive on average than for their equivalent petrol models. For example, leasing an electric Peugeot e-208 costs approximately £509 a month, but the petrol model is offered at £329. The group says that leasing companies typically charge customers for the expected loss in value of a vehicle over a three or four-year lease, with higher prices meaning they expect EVs to lose more of their value. However, T&E says its analysis shows that EVs have similar resale values to diesel and petrol vehicles, so more expensive EV lease deals are “unjustified”. DACIA has transformed its low-cost seven-seat Jogger MPV into a two-berth budget ‘motorhome’, with the addition of the innovative Sleep Pack. The conversion unit takes the place of the Jogger’s third row of seating, and Dacia claims it allows a 190 x 130cm mattress to be folded out behind the front seats in around two minutes. ABARTH has started taking orders for the ‘Scorpionissima’ launch edition of its first electric 500. The 152bhp city car is now available to pre-order, with prices starting at £38,695. Spurs kicks off F1 youth academy FORMULA One has announced a 15-year strategic partnership with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. HYUNDAI is already committed to further generations of its conventionally powered small hatchbacks, the firm’s European boss has revealed. Both Europe and the UK have looming bans on the sales of combustion-engined vehicles, but Hyundai Europe President & CEO Michael Cole (pictured below) said that new versions of the i10, i20 and i30 are all in the pipeline. “For now, those cars are all still in our plan – even for the next generation,” Cole told us.
