On Sep. 25, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) announced that it would execute the 2nd round of its improvement plan of the Electronic Architectural Administration Information System (EAAIS, more at: cloud.eais.go.kr). It is an online national information platform for civic affairs such as issuance of the building register, building license, housing license, building ledgers, building maintenance projects, operator registry, construction commissioners’ committee, green building, deregistration and destruction. The exhibition ‘Pavilion Laboratory’ was on display at Domansa, in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, between Aug. 28 to Oct. 31. The theme of this exhibition was the architect’s pavilion, explored through works such as Lifethings (principal, Yang Sooin), NAMELESS Architecture (co-principals, Na Unchung, Yoo Sorae), stpmj (co-principals, Lee Seungteak, Lim Mijung), and SoA (co-principals, Kang Yerin, Lee Chihoon, Park Youngseo). This exhibition focuses on architectural experiments conducted through the form of the pavilion, rather than introducing the plans through which pavilions were created and run. Recently, the number of people living with companion animals has increased significantly. The question of whether one owns a dog or cat was even included in a recent Population and Housing Census. Under these circumstances, from Sep. 4 to Oct. 25, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) in Seoul opened ‘Museum for All, Museum for Dogs’, inviting dogs in particular to enter their spaces, which account for the largest percentage of companion animals in Korea. The award winners of the Korean Architecture Awards 2020 were announced on sep. 24. The completed building track was further divided into public, private, shared residences, and general residence categories. Haeahn Architecture’s National Assembly Communication Building, Yeoneu Architects and TPL Architect’s Rain Avenue, ANU Design Group’s Kolon Haneulchae in Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Office City, and Gansam’s Multi-housing in Gugi-dong were chosen as finalists in these respective divisions. On Sep. 25, WISE Architecture (co-principals, Jang Youngchul, Chun Sookhee) was selected as the final winner in the design competition for the Ang-gang Bay Archipelago Observatory Deck Construction Project. Namhae-gun hosted this design competition with the aim of creating a building that would blend into the landscape rather than conceived of yet another lofty observatory from which visitors can admire the surrounding seascape. In a site of 3,500m2 located in Murim-ri in Idong-myeon, participants in the competition were asked to submit a design proposal that included an observatory, a pavilion, a children’s play area, and food and beverage facilities.
