Ubuntu, Mint and Fedora produce installable live CDs only, while Mageia and OpenSUSE also have install-only DVDs. All these distros support multiple desktop environments (DE) in different live CDs. However, none of the live CDs allow package selection. OpenSUSE and Mageia lead the others for flexibility as they both offer multiple DEs. Mageia offers the most options, although they both default to KDE.
Once you’ve picked the DE, both distros enable you to select groups of software for various desktop functions, such as office, multimedia and gaming etc. Furthermore, both distros allow you to install server-specific packages for a web server, database server or a firewall gateway. Finally, you can use both the installers to fine-tune the package selection and even choose individual packages for installation.
